Thank you for the lifetime contribution, nation father.

As a 90's kid, we saw transformation of Singapore jumping into the first world country state. We saw how the economy grew despite inflation. This country, was a slumber 50 years ago, now it turned into a metropolis , where landmarks , high rise building stood tall in this small island. They said we wouldnt make it, but we did.
The passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew was not shocking to us Singaporeans as we knew his health deteriorate when Mdm Kwa(Mr Lee's wife) passed away in 2010.

23 March 2015, was a day where a great leader left, many condolences flooded Singapore. Singapore was grieving, the media was flooded with his legacy. We read on, many articles about him that we never knew. Of course I wouldn't agree on all the actions he did, but facing the fact, his actions at each turning or breaking point of Singapore was appropriate so to bring us to greater heights.

You see the nation gathered at the stretch from Istana to the Parliament house. Shouting his name, shouting I love you, applausing, this very moment touched my heart.

Singaporeans loved to queue for almost everything under the sun but this averagely 8 hour long queue to  the parliament house was the most meaningful thing ever. People were on line orderly. Hotels and companies who were in the stretch of crowd  gave out free water and seats out of freewill.

I went to queue on the 2nd day that was open to the public. Due overwhelming of people, the government decided to open the visiting for 24 hrs. The queue was insanely long from the mrt station. At the Padang, when you got into the section for waiting. Humid, hot , endless waiting but what touches me the most was how people helped one another in the queue. Volunteers were unable to reach the centre of the crowd to distribute water and snacks. People in queue helped to passed them. You see people sharing food with strangers, something you wouldn't see during a normal day. Mediacorp artistes queued the same manner as we did, many hours just for the short 20secs to walk pass Mr Lee to bow and sincerely thank him for all he did. Many hours, people were not complaining because it was too long, you only hear people being curious on why was the crowd not moving. The public kept streaming in despite late hours. Few had to withdraw as some had work and unable to take leave. But it's all worthwhile.

On the last day where the national funeral service was held at the NUS university cultural centre. People were either in the line up to bid their last farewell or staying home to watch the live telecast. That sunday , was the gloomiest day of the week. The heavy downpour didn't disperse the crowd which left a more impactful memory on every citizen. The line up was filled up to the end of the destination. Some sung we are singapore, some called out for him, some weeped, some kneeled to express their gratitude to this nation father. The amount of respect given to him by the nation and the world was way too great.

The national anthem and national pledge never felt so meaningful before in my life until the day when the siren rang for a minute of silence for LKY.

I was never too proud to mention myself as a daughter of Singapore all my life. But this one week, made me realised how blessed we were, how much we are united as one. Thank you for the efforts and contributions you done for Singapore. Now this little nation is standing strong and free, I hope you find your wife and continue your eternal love with her, blessing the country you built up. May the future generations continue to build the foundation you left for us. Rest in peace.
